Trust: Your doctor. I am sure you are very anxious, but these questions always involve some waiting to see what happens. If you do not trust your doctor's advice for any reason, then 1) talk honestly with him/her about it, and 2) if necessary see another doctor.

Can a yolk sac b mistaken for a fetal pole?

Maybe: Anything is possible, but a yolk sac appears before a fetal pole and is a circular structure. The fetal pole appears slightly later and has a different appearance. Repeat imaging should clear up any confusion.

Too early to know: Traditionally the level of hormone above which we should be able to reliably detect an embryo in the uterus is quoted as 3600 -6000 (depending on which study you read). So it is quite probable that this is still a normal pregnancy. You will have to wait a few days and get another scan to be sure. The wait can be agonising! I wish you well.

Had my first u/s today measured 6 weeks...The tech only saw a gestatbional sac. No yolk or fetal pole. Said everything looked ok. I'm still worried???

Repeat US in 1 week: It's not uncommon for a US at 6 weeks to show only a gestational sac. It's possibly that the fetal pole is lagging and it just needs a little more time. Be patient. There is not much you can do but think positive. Getting a measurement of the gestational sac size can be helpful as well for us to guide expectations.

Hi my LMP was on 14th June 2014. I had slight bleeding on 11th and 12th july. My scan (tvs) sac:6.5mm, yolk:2.3mm and no fetal pole. Is that normal?

Patience is Key: It is best to repeat the ultrasound in 1 week to look for fetal pole. It I best to wait till 7 weeks before making any decisions. Ovulation day may change. You are only about 6 weeks now. I am not sure when you did the ultrasound. You can also do HCG levels 48 hours apart. So, please just wait. Good Luck!

I am 5weeks and 1day, did an ultrasound and they couldn't find the yolk sac or fetal pole. Is this a problem?

I am 5weeks and 1day, did an ultrasound and they couldn't find the yolk sac or fetal pole. Is this a problem?

Possibly: It may be too early to detect those structures. Your doctor may wait to see if the pregnancy progresses, do serum beta HCG blood test, or ask for repeat ultrasound in 4 to 6 days, depending on your symptoms.

6wks, spotting a week, elongated sac not round on US, looked full of blood (no yolk visible) fetal pole no heartbeat but right size. Any chance?

6wks, spotting a week, elongated sac not round on US, looked full of blood (no yolk visible) fetal pole no heartbeat but right size. Any chance?

Possibly: Do you know the actual measurements? There is a guideline that can be used called the 5-10-20 Rule for Crown Rump Lengths and Gestational Sacs > if  you have 5mm CRL you should see heart beat, this should be by/at 6 weeks >if you have 10mm GS, you should see a yolk sac, if not then nonviable >if you have 20mm GS, you should see a fetal pole, if not then nonviable. Again these just guidelines.

Hcg 5-5: 181 hcg 5-7: 413 conceived no earlier than 4-17. U/s 5-15: 5mm gest. Sac, no yolk or fetal pole. Repeat in 1 week. Normal & early or worry?

Possibly: Could be normal and early, but it may also be an abnormal pregnancy. Repeating HCG and ultrasound in 1 week is exactly what I would do, unless you start having severe pain or bleeding.

6w5d had a u/s that showed a sac yolk sac but no fetal pole or hb my hcg levels are normal and rising, is this normal?

Repeat: Typically a fetal pole can be seen by 6 wk and 5 days but no definitive diagnosis should be made. A repeat sonogram should be done in 1-2 weeks to determine if the pregnancy is developing normally

Can just seeing the gestational sac and yolk sac and no fetal pole or heartbeat normal at 6 weeks and 2 days?

Can just seeing the gestational sac and yolk sac and no fetal pole or heartbeat normal at 6 weeks and 2 days?

Gestational dates: At 6-7 weeks usually a heartbeat can be seen. Often people are wrong about the date they got pregnant. The sonogram show they got pregnant at a different time than they expected. Your sonogram should be repeated in about a week to see if a heartbeat can be seen.

Is it normal to not see the fetal pole at 6w2d in a vaginal ultrasound? There's a healthy yolk sac but we wouldn't find the baby.

Is it normal to not see the fetal pole at 6w2d in a vaginal ultrasound? There's a healthy yolk sac but we wouldn't find the baby.

Fetal pole: 6 weeks is then pivotal point. Usually we do see a pole at 6 weeks but there isn't one seen, a repeat u/s in 1 weeks would certainly solve the question. It's a horrible emotional place to be but 1 more week will solve it most likely.

Hcg keeps doubling like it should had u/s says I'm 5wks 2days but only saw gest sac no yolk or fetal pole isn't that norm? Dr swears it's ovum? Help

Could be fine: Early pregnancy ultrasounds at 5 weeks can sometimes show only a gestational sac and no fetal pole. When women are in the situation with HCG levels that are doubling every 2-3 days there is a good chance that everything is fine. I will sometimes have a woman get another ultrasound in 5-7 days to see if the gestational sac is larger.

Too early to know...: At 5 weeks, you may only be able to see the yoke sac. This doesn't mean something is wrong. You don't always see a heart-beat until 6.5 to 7 weeks. Remember that 5 weeks is only 3 weeks from conception. Its very early. I wouldn't worry at this point. You might consider repeating the scan at 7 or 8 weeks. Best wishes!

1st vag. Scan I was 5w1d No fetal pole only yolk sac. 5 days later Vag scan measures me 5w5d. Still only yolk sac seen. I Had IUI and should be 7w2d??

The only thing: To do is be patient and follow the ultrasound during the coming 1-2 weeks. This situation could go either way, but should give you a clear answer very soon - good luck in the meantime.

Sac seen, msd-13mm -6weeks but my LMP is 8weeks 2 days--no yolk sac seen-fetal pole not visualized at the time of scan. Sac partially separated 8*5mm?

Dates off?: May be off on dates, don't see fetal pole until sac at least 18 mm on transvaginal scan. It may work out and your just not where you thought or the pregnancy may not be viable low probality but a pregnancy in the tube can create a pseudo-sac but you would likely be in pain. If non viable your chances of having a normal preg. Next time are not lower; go to the follow up, sorry, tough situation.
