12 Year Old With Chest Pain
12 year old with intermittent chest pain, feels like his heart is hurting. Lasting for 20-30 seconds about 6-10 times per day for the last two days.
Wouldn't be heart: The story fits more with what's behind the heart. When we swallow our own spit we open the entrance to the stomach. If it is processing food, the squeeze will push stomach acid up into the lower esophagus. For some this will cause transient pain. Tums (calcium carbonate) can helps some, but avoiding caffeine & not laying down for an hour after eating, can help it fade sooner. ...Read more

I usually get severe chest pains, I got diagnosed with bronchitis before when I was 11-12 years old. Any medications?
Confusing question: The average kid of 11-12 would have an episode of bronchitis at least once, and I doubt that has anything to do with your present problem. Pain in your chest can originate from the lungs, lung linings, heart linings or heart blood vessels. It can also come from your digestive tract. An exam and review of physical findings would narrow down the possibilities. Treatment would depend on evaluation. ...Read more
Define location!: I find the most often source is actually underneath the mid chest surface in the junction of the swallowing tube and stomach. (same general location) They call it heart burn for that reason. It is usually the result of too much caffeine in sodas or chocolate, laying down after eating or spicy foods. Tums (calcium carbonate) helps as would avoiding aggravating foods/behaviors. ...Read more

I often experience chest pain right in the middle of my chest. What could this be? The chest pain does lasts a few seconds and is quite sharp. It happens every few days, sometimes more than once a day. I am a 26 year old female and I am not overweight and
There are many different reasons why you might be experiencing chest pains. One of the most worrisome reasons patients experience chest pains is that they have a blockage in one or more of their heart arteries. Atherosclerosis is a disease of the blood vessel where plaque or fatty deposits grow inside the blood vessels and restrict blood flow to the heart muscle. This typically creates a presure or burning or tightness in the chest area which could radiate to the left shoulder or arm, neck, or jaw. Often it worsens with exertion and improves with rest. The most common risk factors leading to these blockages include smoking, diabetes, a close family member with this disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure.
If you are 26, of normal weight, a non-smoker, without diabetes or high cholesterol and your parents do not have coronary artery disease, it is quite unlikely that you have this problem.
Much more likely this is due to some other reason. Stress can cause many symptoms in our bodies such as head aches, upset stomach, and anxious feelings. Stress can also cause chest pains.
If your symptoms continue or worsen, I would urge you to make contact with your doctor for an appointment to discuss this further. ...Read more

Need to know if I have to go to the emergency room or not. Re-occurring chest pain in 19-year-old female?
Depends: "chest pain" in a 19yo female can originate from the chest wall, heart, lungs or the entrance to the stomach. If this comes in spurts and pressing down below your breast bone hurts, this may be heartburn and worthy of an office visit. If it worsens with activity, stays for extended periods or worsens when you lay down I would have it assessed in an urgent care setting. ...Read more

See a doctor.: Left sided chest pain in the young adult is generally not caused by a heart attack. Some other kind of heart or lung problem or even a problem with the lining of the lungs can cause this. Chest wall or chest muscle problem can also cause chest pain. The best way to find it out is to go see a primary doctor. He might get a chest x ray or even perform more tests to find out and treat it. ...Read more
