12 Weeks 6 Days Pregnant Ultrasound
How accurate are ultrasounds at 12 weeks. Is it possible to be twelve weeks pregnant and bby measure at 14 weeks?
Very: A technically good scan by a proficient sonographer or physician will be accurate to less than 1 week in the first trimester. If a 12-week scan is technically good and is interpreted correctly, it should not be possible to be off by that much; meaning the ultrasound dates are likely correct. ...Read more
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

With a normal pregnancy, all ultrasounds including ones in the 1st trimester showed LMP 10/15/12. Could conception have occurred after 11/7/12?
Pregnancy sono: If the ultrasounds were done in the first trimester and all confirm the 10/15/12 lmp, then there is little chance that conception occurred after 11/7/12. The first trimester ultrasound is usually sensitive to +/- 3 days. ...Read more
When 1st trimester ultrasounds date pregnancy how do they base the gestational age? Do they assume conception occured on cd14?
US: First trimester ultrasound is based on biometric measurements only, the embryonic crown-rump length, which is extremely reliable when done by a skilled sonographer. No assumptiosn need be made at all. The ega is however reported correctly, by convention, from the first day of a hypotehtical last menstrual period; so in that regard it 'assumes' conception on cd 14. ...Read more
I was worried I was pregnant so paid for external ultra sound at what would be 12 weeks. No baby found... Could I still be pregnant?
Do the ultra sound add 2 weeks to determine a due date? It says I'm 12 weeks pregnant did i conieve 12 weeks ago?
Menstrual age vs ...:
Gestational age. You need to know what someone means by 12 weeks pregnant — menstrual age or gestational age.
Before ultrasound, everything was based on number of weeks since the first day of the last menses. That is the menstrual age of the pregnancy.
Most women become pregnant 2 weeks after their last menses, which is the gestational age, or the actual time (weeks) since conception. ...Read more

I'm 12 weeks pregnant. I had bleeding with vaginal and pelvic pain. I went to the ER and the ultra sound showed nothing wrong. But the doctor couldn't give me an answer. What should I do?
Possibilities...: Bleeding in the first trimester is not uncommon. At the 12-week point, it could be some bleeding coming from the placental implantation, as it is developing/burrowing into the endometrium, it could also be from some sensitive cells ('friable') on the cervix, — these conditions wouldn't be seen by sonogram. Most impt: if ur baby is growing, has nl heart rate, — a miscarriage is very unlikely. ...Read more

If u have an ultrasound at 12 weeks and it comes back saying u are 12 weeks + 4 days — is that enough of a difference to move up your due date?
Depends: It depends on how much different there is from the due date calculated by the first day of the last period. If the difference is less than 7 days, we usually wouldn't change the due date. If more than 7 days, we usually would except in rare situations where we are 100% sure of the conception date. ...Read more

At an ultrasound, what determines if you are 12 weeks or 12 weeks + 4 days? Are measurements this precise? And the accuracy correlates with your LMP too?
Crown Rump Length: At twelve week on ultrasound, the sonographer measures the fetus' crown rump length (crl). This measurement is from the base of skull to tailbone. Ultrasounds at twelve weeks are accurate within 7 days. If you were 12 weeks by LMP and 12 4/7 weeks by sono, you due date would stay consistent with your lmp. ...Read more

The : The ultrasound dating now is remarkably accurate. There can be discrepancies in the dates that the patient has from the date of menstrual period, but the ultrasound dating is remarkably accurate based on the "crown rump length" of the fetus, which is the measurement of the baby from the crown of the head to the tip of its bottom, the development of the heart, and other vital organ which can already be identified by ultrasound dating. A 12-week ultrasound date should be very accurate. ...Read more

I recently had a transvaginal ultrasound done & it said I'm 12 weeks & 5 days is it okay that the baby measures 11.3 cm? Is that too big or too small?
Fine: The ultrasound dating of a pregnancy is based on the fetal measurements so, if the ultrasound dating agrees with your dating based on your last menstrual period, the baby is just the right size. Remember, however, that babies gain most of their weight in the third trimester and that is when you see the greatest difference between large and small babies. Best wishes to you both. ...Read more
