Our ultrasound tech told us the baby was a boy but wrote on the picture that the baby is a girl. If we send you the picture could you tell us the gend?

Better not: US determination of baby's gender is at times subjective and depends on many factors: resolution, gestational age, technique, etc. So kindly ask your doctor for another exam, or simply wait and repeat later when the baby grows more, wishing you a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

I WANT YOU TO READ MY BABY ULTRA SOUND PICTURE AND TELL ME IF ITS A BOY OR GIRL?

HEALTHTAP: Is for advice and general information and answering some basic questions for you, but not definitively diagnosing or reading previously ordered tests, etc. The radiologist or your Ordering Dr. Should be able to comment on the sex of the baby if the US was done at the appropriate age of the developing baby that it can be determined. Best wishes. ...Read more

Week on ultrasound picture is gestational age or fetal age.?

Week on ultrasound picture is gestational age or fetal age.?

Both: Fetal age is of course the exact age of your fetus as determined by measurements taken of the baby. Fetuses have different rates of growth or may have problems with growth, so sometimes the measurement age doesn't match the "expected" gestational age. The best "age" is determined by an early ultrasound between 6 and 12 weeks gestation. Accuracy of ultrasound decreases as pregnancy progresses. ...Read more

Did a pelvic ultrasound this week the results show all the parts but no picture of the right ovary and its the part that hurts. Should I do it again?

Did a pelvic ultrasound this week the results show all the parts but no picture of the right ovary and its the part that hurts. Should I do it again?

CT: Do you still have your appendix? The ovaries don't usually hurt as much as they get blamed for. I would think more about your uterus having a spasm with pain radiating to your right side, or appendix, colon spasm, abdominal wall spasm.

If a thorough physical examination can't delineate the source of the pain, you may need a ct scan, but I wouldn't have high hopes it would give a specific answer. ...Read more

I came home from my 20 week rob anatomy ultrasound today, I brought home a cd with all of my pictures on it and stumbled across the preliminary report. It says I have anterior low lying placenta, what is this and should I schedule to see my doctor sooner

I came home from my 20 week rob anatomy ultrasound today, I brought home a cd with all of my pictures on it and stumbled across the preliminary report. It says I have anterior low lying placenta, what is this and should I schedule to see my doctor sooner

Relax!: Low-lying placenta at 20 weeks has >80% chance of moving out of the way as the pregnancy advances and the growing uterus expands higher up in your abdomen (placental migration). You do need another sonogram at 28 weeks and some instructions until then: avoid Aspirin and all nsaids (e.g. Motrin, advil, aleve) and only take regular tylenol (acetaminophen) for aches/pains; nothing per vaginam; no heavy lifting/sex. ...Read more

Can a fetus develop a cleft lip after 21 weeks? Just had my 35 week ultrasound and there's a big line in the upper lip in her face pictures. Worried

Can a fetus develop a cleft lip after 21 weeks? Just had my 35 week ultrasound and there's a big line in the upper lip in her face pictures. Worried

Not at all: The lip & palate structures form and finish between 5 & 12 wks. There is no way they can undo what is complete. A well trained sonographer can detect a cleft by 16-20 wks. Any line you see likely represents a fold of skin caused by the various pressures of the womb on the baby. Your doc should be able to get these pics & explain them. ...Read more

I was curious how far along i'd be if the ultrasound said 6.5 cm/1.3/27 Hz at the top of my picture.?

I was curious how far along i'd be if the ultrasound said 6.5 cm/1.3/27 Hz at the top of my picture.?

Sorry Mildred,: Those numbers are most likely related to the ultrasound settings, (Depth/gain/frequency) Ask your OB or sonographer for your dates or measurements. In early pregnancy we measure crown-rump-length (CRL). Later, the fetal head diameter (biparietal diameter or BPD) from "ear-to-ear." Also look for abd. Circumference (AC), head circum. (HC), or femur length (FL) since these are used more often. ...Read more

What are 3d ultrasounds? What is the kind of ultrasound that creates 3d looking pictures? Is it an issue of level 2 ultrasound vs. Something else?

What are 3d ultrasounds? What is the kind of ultrasound that creates 3d looking pictures? Is it an issue of level 2 ultrasound vs. Something else?

2D vs 3D: 3d ultrasound is a software upgrade to newer ultrasound machines. The software allows the ultrasound machine to create beautiful images. These additional images rarely improve the diagnostic accuracy if the ultrasound exam. A level 2 obstetrical ultrasound does not typically include 3d images. ...Read more

So I went to get an ultrasound and they told me it's a girl but I can't tell. I tried looking up other ultrasound pictures and I just can't tell.

Hard to tell: The ultrasound is relatively reliable after 18-20 weeks when read by an experienced radiologist. In simple terms "the turtle must stick his head out" to see boy parts, and if they took enough time to evaluate the area it would be evident. I never bet the farm on an ultrasound. Although they are pretty good today I have seen them be wrong. ...Read more

Man, u need to relax: There is no way one can determine from fetal US pictures if the baby does or doesn't resemble them. The unborn baby is still developing and change their appearance, including facial features right upto and AFTER their birth. Try to appreciate the beauty of human development inside the womb and the miraculous process of birth. There are better ways to handle doubts afterwards. Be supportive now. ...Read more

When looking at a transvaginal ultrasound picture which side is left and right?

If I am looking at my transvaginal ultrasound picture and the baby is on the left of the picture does that mean the baby is on my right in me?

I had a vaginal ultrasound today. In the ultrasound one picture shows a good size lump beside the baby aginsted the wall of the placenta. In all the other pictures there is a small circle beside child?

Without the image..: It's hard to know what you are describing without the image, but it sounds like a placental chorioangioma, which is usually a benign finding. Google that, and look at "images" to see how it compares to what you've got. By the way, the small circle is the yolk sac. ...Read more

I was told I have a 4.5 mm nodular density on breast. It say also it could be benign. I have to go back and get an ultrasound and more pictures Worry?

Difficult: To determine without evaluating the mammographic features, but if they are indeed probably benign (BIRADS category 3) that implies a greater than 98% of it being benign. The ultrasound will help further characterize the nodule. Most commonly these types of findings turn out to be cysts on ultrasound. ...Read more

Measurement of my baby and what it really means along with y I haven't got sick yet I went to the sonogram doctor today and there was a 5.3 CM on my sonogram picture how big is the baby? And I haven't had morning sickness yet but just feeling queasy a lot

That: That means your baby is about 2 inches big. Some women do not have a major problem with morning sickness. If you make it through the first 12 weeks without significant morning sickness then it is unlikely that it will be a problem for you. Congratulations on your pregnancy. ...Read more

At my 18 week ultrasound I did not inquire, but have a rather convincing image of a boy. Not sure how to acurately tell. Pic is looking down on body?

You should ask: The "boy" picture is one that many untrained eyes can pick out, for sure. That said, the male/female genitals can have significant overlap in ultrasound appearance, so best to leave it to the experts. One anecdote: I recently had an OB ultrasound guessing game at a baby shower for my friend. Most people's guesses were way off. Best to confirm before you start buying boy stuff. ...Read more

Our gyn said that our fetus gender is boy 18 weeks after preg. Using his clinic ultrasound. He said 100% as baby cooperated and legs open. Is it 100%?

While nothing: Is 100%, if the u/s saw a penis and scrotum, only a very masculinized vulva could mimic. It sounds like he/she OB is certain that your fetus has male gender. You will know for sure after birth. What is the rush? Curiosity and satisfaction have a price, and this isn't worth it. ...Read more
