Then add the activity amount of calorie burning each day, 10% for minimal activity and more for vigorous activity (at least 30%). Weight loss: It is not about the type of walking but rather the calories burned. Using your example you will have walked 3 miles in one hour slow walking and 2.7 miles in a 1/2 hour fast walking. Yes.: That sounds like it should be fine. Check your heart rate during exercise - your should be about 160 for maximal cardiovascular benefit. If it's higher than that, but not higher than 180, then great. If it's lower than that, you may need to up your pace a bit. Something amiss: Based on your age, gender, weight and height your basal metabolic rate is around 1400 cal/day: thats what you need just to live without moving at all! Odds are you burn more than 200 cal just moving about, without including your exercise. So either something awry with you metabolism and/or your estimated caloric intake. See your ortho doc: Decrease mileage and make sure you stretch and warm up. Use ice on painful area.Get a physical exam to diagnose exact cause of your pain. IT Band Syndrome is very common in runners, you can learn stretches to avoid this pain. Warm up vs cool down: Active warm up is ideal prior to intense workouts. Depending upon how aggressive your yoga routine is, it might serve as warm up. With that said, cooling down is also a good idea after intense exercise too.
