10 Year Old Daughter With Nasal Polyps Any Nonsurgical Treatment
Kid polyps: In children, non-surgical care is the preference. Nasal steroids are the main medication. Also, singulaire can reduce polyps. If polyps are due to allergy, then agressive allergy treatment (avoidance, medication, allergy shots) is needed. Polyps in children are uncommon & can be associoated with cystic fibrosis or developmental masses. Evaluation by ENT is needed. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
My 10 yr old son diagnosed with enlarge adenoids & advised nasal spray with anti allergic for 3 months before deciding surgery. Is it imp to remove em?
Can't tell: Usually t ; a is not recommended lightly and i would doubt that a nasal spray (presumably cortisone) would affect them. If they are causing breathing problem or recurrent ear infections, then it should be considered. I suspect that your doctor is trying to sort out whether it is the nasal congestion is the real cause for the recurrent otitis media and sinus infection by using the nasal spray. ...Read more

Depends on cause: If it is chronic infections, then one can treat with antibiotics for each infection. If there is repeated infections, then one can continue to treat with antibiotics or surgery. If it is due to airway blockage, many will try nasal steroid sprays, and anti-allergy medication to decrease the size of the tonsils and adenoids. If that is not effective, then typically surgery is recommended. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

75 yr old woman has hernia operation, suffering from nightly post surgical itching, have seen derm, allergist, etc. No explanation, any ideas?
Some ideas....: 1. Check w surgeon to make absolutely sure no foreign object is in wound or inside that is causing allergy sx. 2. Dry skin--drink 60 ounces of clear fluid daily; use skin moisturizer after bathing or twice daily in all itchy areas. 3. Taking any new otc or rx meds at all? If yes, stop them; any new cream, soap, detergent, wound cover material? Perhaps spring allergy, nothing to do w surgery. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Looking for info on sphenoid sinus disease/surgery for 8 yr old. Ped ENT observed for 1 yr & has worsened, now surgery. How rare is this procedure?
It depends: Sphenoid sinus disease that causes symptoms such as headaches should be operated on if it does not respond to antibiotics. If there are no symptoms, it probably isn't necessary to do surgery unless the doctor is concerned that there is a mass in the sinus, instead of just swelling or infection. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Depends: ARe you sure the chronic cough is due to post nasal drip? It could be caused by asthma or reflux. Also you may not be using the Flonase properly, make sure it is pointed outward toward ear and use consistently on a daily basis. Claritin might not be strong enough antihistamine. 10 year old female with seasonal allergies which is well controlled with daily bid Dymista. Recent severe erythema, bullas, pain and bleeding.....?
Hand eczema: Although hand eczema may be a manifestation of atopic dermatitis, it is not that common among 10 yo. would first look for a contact allergen or irritant exposure. Excessive hand washing & strongly scented antibacterial soap should be avoided. Applying cortisone ointment for a few days to calm down the inflammation and using hand lotion after washing the hands may be helpful. If the problem persists, then I would consider doing a panel of patch testing to look for contact allergens. Although staph infection of open skin may be a problem, the picture you provided does not seem to point to an infection but more a contact dermatitis. Both dermatologist and allergist perform allergy patch skin testing. ...Read moreSee 9 more doctor answers
Is radiofrequency ablation safe for a 20 year old with chronic neck pain- have tried conservative treatment. ?
Radiofrequency: RF ablation for the nerves supplying the facet joint in the spine are very effective and can provide relief for more than a year at a time. The catch is that it has to be done by a properly trained physician who understands the fine skills that are required and can provide a safe treatment. You will need two diagnostic blocks which can basically prove that the pain is from those joints. ...Read more

My 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with degenerative joint disease. Are shots and surgery effective?
My son 7 years old son having enlarged adenoid and also allergic rhinitis. Is adenoid surgery required? At which condition surgery is required?
Various options: While surgery may be the needed option, if his adenoids enlarged due to allergies, medical treatment first may be helpful or curative. Reduce allergen exposure, discuss with your doc using intranasal steroids or a leukotriene modifier (like singulair) and see if symtoms abate with the medical treatment. If symptoms very severe or not responsive to medical and avoidance therpay, may need surgery. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Age 58 DNS&Sinusitis problem Operated for dns 30yrs ago no relief Post nasal drip often round the yr heaviness in head and loss of smell PL Advice?
See allergist: Despite the surgery (which is only about 50% effective for chronic sinusitis), if your nasal mucosa remains very swollen it would obstruct sinus drainage leading to infection. Another possibility is impairment in your immune system so that your body can't kill off the germs. An allergist should be able to help you sort out these factors. ...Read more
