10 Week Ultrasound Scan
Accurate: Shouldn't be off by more than a couple of days.
An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more
Got my 10 week ultrasound and it says 8cm? Is that how long the baby is? Isn't that pretty big for just 10 weeks?
3 centimeters: At 10 week a fetus would measure about 3 cm. Clarify with your doctor the findings of your sonogram report.
Is a gestational age reading accurate on a 10 week ultrasound? And what exactly are they measuring?
Accurate: A first trimester ultrasound is highly accurate. They are measuring what is called a crown (top of the head) rump (bottom of the bum) length. The length is compared to average size embryos to come up with a gestational age.
Can a ultrasound done at 10 weeks be off by 3 weeks (+/- 3 weeks) or is a 10 week ultrasound pretty accurate?
Accurate: It shouldn't be off by more than a couple of days.
If my dr gave me a due date of 6-23-13 at a 10 week ultrasound, and then another due date of 6-20-13 at a 24 week ultrasound, which one is accurate?
6/23/2013.: As a general rule, the first sonogram's due date is most accurate.
Unanswerable: There has to be more to this story. Why would any OB offer you three ultrasounds so very close together? Ob ultrasounds are thought to be most accurate early on. So, I would rely on the week six u/s first. But, your OB may have better specific information here.
No: If a person knows how to do an ultrasound, 10 weeks cannot be mistaken for 6 weeks or vice versa.
Request records: Simply fill out the proper paperwork requesting your medical records.
From conception.: Depends, how you calculate. The term is calculated from the first day of your period. This is traditionally so. So, what it means really? From the time of conception? Yes.
What are the risks on baby of 4D ultrasound every week? (done by skilled technician in gerontology center, the duration of scan is 3-5 minutes)
None: As a radiologist, I know of no health concerns for you or the fetus from ultrasound. With that being said, unless there is an abnormality, there is no reason to do scans that often. There may be unknown risks that we won't learn about until the future. If you are doing the scans because it is for fun, I don't recommend you continue to do this.
Why would a 6.6cm cyst with echoes on ultrasound be visible after 6 weeks, however not visible on the scan another 4 weeks later and symptoms remain?
No simple answer: It is still possible that the cause of your symptoms may not be related to the cyst. Continue with your gynecologist to seek out real cause of symptoms.
If NT ultrasound was on nov.20 putting me at 12 weeks, when did conception occur? If I was less than 11 weeks, could have the NT scan still been done?
At 2 weeks gestation: When pregnancy dating is done by ultrasound scanning, the gestational age is the "number of weeks pregnant", and the estimated conception date is 2 weeks after the "start of the pregnancy". In this case, the start was 12 weeks ago (the person is 12 weeks pregnant), so the conception was 10 weeks ago. Life is never exact, so all numbers are estimates.
Dr said not to worry and ordered a 30 week ultrasound. I'm measuring small for 28 weeks. She said still normal...but scared. Ips and 20 week scan normal?
Follow the growth: Just as there are short and tall children, babies' sizes vary. We have charts of normal size for fetal age. If there is a problem, growth will usually not be at a normal rate. This becomes obvious when the weight and dates are plotted on a growth chart. The Dr. Is prudently suggesting following fetal growth and other data, even though the baby is within normal range, on the small side of average
I have had 2 Ultrasound scans that show my EDD as 9th January and 7th January respectively. It doesn't tally at all with my LMP. A lot of weeks off. About 6-8 weeks?
Accurate estimates: Ultrasound dating scans in the first trimester, such as at 8-11 weeks of pregnancy, are very accurate... meaning plus or minus one week. Especially if the doctor feels the fetus is growing appropriately for gestational age through the course of the pregnancy, the ultrasound dating estimates are likely very good. That means use the ultrasound dating instead of the non-matching LMP dating.
Usually not: At 8-12 weeks it is very accurate for dating plus minus a few days. It cannot be off by a month.See 2 more doctor answers
What does it mean if my ultrasound scan report for 8 week growth is normal but no cardiac activity?
Sorry: All living 8 week fetuses should have cardiac activity. An 8 week fetus without cardiac activity has died. If there was any doubt as to whether there was good visualization of the pregnancy a transvaginal scan should have been done. Good luck.
At my 20 week ultrasound scan they said they were unable to see the left kidney, do they need to repeat it or do another test?
Repeat post partum: The absence of one kidney is entirely compatible with good health. It is possible that another scan will show normal anatomy. After delivery a repeat scan to confirm the first is a good idea, couple this with a check of your overall kidney health and a discussion of risks to the kidneys from lifestyle and disease states, with your physician.
At 12 weeks scan the ultrasound technician saw that the baby has penetrated the empty sac of the vanishing twin. How can this be?
Clarification: I would schedule a visit with your doctor to ask for clarification on the sonogram findings. This is such a specific question it requires someone to view the images of the sonogram to be able to interpret the results
When you have an ultrasound dating scan and they say you are just under 4 weeks have they add 2 weeks or is that how old the fetus is?
Gestational age: Usually we talk in "gestational age" which already adds the 2 weeks. But it would be unusual for them to say you were just under 4 weeks based on an ultrasound. In this case, they would be only able to measure the gestational sac size. If this is true, the ultrasound would usually be repeated in 2.5 more weeks at which time the "fetal pole" with heartbeat should be seen and measured.
If I've haf 2 ultrasound scans...One at 11w and one at 12 weeks. And both gave an edd of 18th august 2013. Did conception happen nov or dec?
Probably November: Your dates would suggest that you conceived around november 26, 2012. Bear in mind that the accuracy of your dating is probably within plus or minus a week so it is barely possible you might have conceived as late as the first few days in december. Hope this is helpful.
Ultrasound had allowed the visualization of internal structures of the body in a non-invasive manner. Ultrasound therefore is a good tool for the evaluation of pregnancies. Pregnancy ultrasound can be performed in all phases of pregnancy. Early ones are mainly used for confirmation of the pregnancy as well as confirming dates. Later ones can identify problems in the organ ...Read more
