An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

Lmp: 6 weeks 5 days. Ultrasound shows 5 weeks 5 days. Bleeding x 4 days. Ultrasound shows heartbeat @ 87, (+) fetal pole. Miscarriage?
Threatened AB: Any bleeding or cramping in your first trimester can be from a threatened miscarriage (or abortion, ab). The bleeding is always a worrisome sign and a fetal heart rate < 100 BPM is also worrisome. Follow your doc's instructions & remember that if you do miscarry, it is rarely from something you did and most are inevitable. Take care & best of luck. ...Read more
33 wk pregnant, Dx hydronephrosis of 1kidney, was 10 last month now 12. Wants weekly ultrasound and 2xwk fetal mon. Excessive?
Here are some...: Why don't you bring this concern to your obs-doc? Clinically, at this stage of pregnancy, it is practically unnecessary to frequently repeat ultrasound imaging since there would be nothing that needs or could be done. At most, repeat it once before childbirth is taking place so to get idea if fetal hydronephrosis may interfere natural delivery; if possible, C-section may be required. So, ask doc.. ...Read more
Blood hCG taken almost 10 weeks after sex <1. Transvaginal ultrasound 1 week later (almost 11 weeks after sex) shows nothing. 100% not pregnant?
Lmp 5/1, positive hpt 3/2, bhcg 2063 7/2. Dating scan yesterday revealed yolk sac only, no heartbeat dated at 6 weeks only ? Missed miscarriage?
Another BHCG: The best way to know what is going on with the pregnancy it to have another bhcg level drawn. The number should double every 48 hours. If it is staying the same or declining the pregnancy is probably not going to continue. If it is on the rise then perhaps the ultrsound was just too early to detect the gestational sac and heartbeat. ...Read more
Unanswerable: There has to be more to this story. Why would any OB offer you three ultrasounds so very close together? Ob ultrasounds are thought to be most accurate early on. So, i would rely on the week six u/s first. But, your OB may have better specific information here. ...Read more

1st pregnancy last yr, blood clot pass every 10 or 15days, finally 13th week miscarried. Lung TB treated 10 yrs ago. Need to check anti phospholipid?
Possibly: Most first trimester miscarriages are due to fetal malformations or chromosome abnormalities. Classic APAS related are often second trimester or associated with other problems like infertility. But if no explanation otherwise for fetal loss, thrombophilia tests like for antiphospholipid antibody are reasonable. ...Read more

Done 3 urine tests. positive. about 4 weeks pregnant. Vaginal ultrasound scan shows embryo but with no yolk sac. Endo thickness: 19.3mm. Worried?
Give it time: Our technology to detect pregnancies is amazing but sometimes we see structures well before they get formed. Give it time for the sac to form structures; you can repeat the US in 1-2 weeks to assess growth. This can be correlated with hormone level checks as well to ensure appropriate rise Best Wishes Dr M ...Read more
Four first trimester ultrasounds done at 7 8 10 12 week all come. Up with same conception date. What's it mean??
Good estimates: One scan gives a good estimate of the conception date. A second scan that gives the same estimate, just gives more confidence that the first scan's estimate is accurate. Accurate means plus or minus one week - because nobody knows exactly when conception happens. However, if a woman knows exactly when she had sex, that can point to the conception date. Normally, people don't get so many scans. ...Read more
By LMP I am 7 weeks pregnant. Ultrasound at 6 weeks 3 days showed irregular sac, no heartbeat or yolk etc. No flow around sac. Hcg rising. Miscarriage?
Early pregnancy: It's too soon to be sure what is going on. Often a woman will ovulate later and the lmp will not be accurate. The best option is to repeat the beta-hcg every 48 hours until 3 results are performed and a repeat ultrasound 1 week after the previous was done. That will usually solve the question. ...Read more
Ultrasound; Gestational sac at 10 weeks looks 5 times bigger than fetus ( which looks 7 weeks ) should i be concerned ?
Not really: There are several parameters that are measured to follow fetal growth in utero: biparietal diameter, femur length. They don't measure size of fetal sac, so no comparable data available and it's just nonsense to talk about it. ...Read more
I had an ultra sound Sunday due to slight bleeding. GS measured 22cm, fetal pole detected at 7mm, no yolk sac, HCG 73,000. HCG 2 days later 78,000?
Ultrasound had allowed the visualization of internal structures of the body in a non-invasive manner. Ultrasound therefore is a good tool for the evaluation of pregnancies. Pregnancy ultrasound can be performed in all phases of pregnancy. Early ones are mainly used for confirmation of the pregnancy as well as confirming dates. Later ones can identify problems in the organ ...Read more
