If baby appears ill then the child should be seen by a pediatrician to determine the cause and do appropriate testing. Medications probably shd not be started till examination is done. ...Read more
Why is my 8 month old baby vomiting after eating dairy (milk based porridge for babies or cottage cheese) but yet he doesn't after vomit eating formula
Whole milk products: Whole milk products may not be tolerated until after 12 months of age. Use infant formula (or breast milk) to make sure your baby gets the right balance of digestible nutrients. If your baby still doesn't tolerate whole cow's milk after a year of age, you may need to try a lactose free cow's milk or soy milk. Some babies can tolerate yogurt, since the lactose is broken down more. ...Read more

I would stop the med immediately! ...Read more

My 10 month old son's stools smelled of vomit after I tried him with baby greek style yogurt. Does this mean he isn't ready for yogurt? I read that this smell in stools can be indicative of celiac disease so it's a little worrying. He is otherwise fine an
Healthy?: If he is healthy otherwise, you need not be concerned. If you don't like the odor of the stool from the yogurt, then you should stop feeding this to him since this is not an essential food. Celiac is related to gluten which is not present in yogurt (unless certain cereal is added). ...Read more

My infant boy has picked up an ugly cough. How can I treat it? He's 23w (19 corrected) 2nd vaccines done 2 days ago. No fever or vomitting
Treatment varies: There are no cold and cough treatments for infants. All of the over the counter medications have no effect and can be harmful to your baby. First have your baby examined at his Doctor to make sure that he does not have any signs of infection. If symptoms are viral then normal saline for the nose and humidified air can be helpful. If you are breastfeeding that is the best medicine. ...Read more

My 6 wk infant has had runny seedy green poos since weaning him onto formulae. No fever or blood and isn't vomiting. Would it be safe to try soy?
Normal poop: While it is certainly fine to try soy formula, what you are describing is perfectly normal poop for a 6 week old. Their stools are very runny and seedy, and colors range from yellow to green to brown to orange. The colors we don't like are white, red and black. These sound like very healthy, normal poops, so I don't think a formula change is even needed. ...Read more
Consult your Pedi: I would discuss this with your pediatrician. Vomiting can be normal in this age if this is just infant reflux. That goes away typically by 12-15 months of age. In other infants it can be a sign of food allergy, anatomic abnormality, overfeeding the stomach with too much food/formula, or infection. Based on the history and physical exam, your pedi may order some imaging tests or blood tests. ...Read more
