How do u get a 1 year old with a bad chest cold to spit out the flem vs swallowing it again?

How do u get a 1 year old with a bad chest cold to spit out the flem vs swallowing it again?

Don't bother...: Swallowing mucus is safe. It is difficult for a budding 'early toddler' to have maturity & skills to spit out phlegm. Don't sweat, mucus mixes with the contents of his/her stomach & passes through the digestive system. Some of it is digested and taken up into the body while some of it passes through to be eliminated from the body with stool. ...Read more

My one year old put a garden snail in her mouth. Is there anything I should be worried about? Should I take her to the Dr?

IN US not dangerous: You need to know if the snail was in an area that there are snail bites. They can have metaldehyde and cause poisoning like tremors, twitching and seizures. If the snail was in your garden and you do not use these bites you are probably ok. The snails in the US by themselves are not dangerous ...Read more

Good day, my one year old has been struggling for the past week with a painfull mouth. She had white spots on her tongue and cant even eat. Plz help?

Try cold things: I find that chilled apple sauce, ice chips, chilled milk or other fluids can numb up the sores enough for them to stay hydrated. You can also paint the sores with Benadryl solution which has a transient anesthetic effect which may allow a brief period for them to eat. ...Read more

My one year old was playing with her ball and feel and hit her mouth. Now her lip is busted...How should I treat it?

Go to M.D.: It is hard to know what busted means, but usually the lip is lacerated and bleeds and swells. Immediately put pressure on the lip to stop bleeding. If there is a laceration, it should be evaluated by a physician. The edema of the lip will take days to resolve. Hopefully no baby teeth were injured. Your pediatrician should examine your one year old. ...Read more

My one year old was playing with her ball and feel and hit her mouth....How should I treat the busted lip and what about the swelling?

Popsicles: If there is ongoing bleeding or recurrent bleeding from the laceration, then it may need a stitch and you need to go to the er. If the bleeding has stopped, cool compresses to the area will diminish the swelling. In a 1 year old, you can often accomplish that with a popsicle or an ice cream cone. It may be her first cut, but probably not her last! ...Read more

Hand-foot-mouth ds: Generally, a person with hand, foot, and mouth disease is most contagious during the first week of illness. What is the cause of white spots on the inside of your top and bottom lips? My granddaughter is 1 year old and has white spots on the inside of her mouth on the top and bottom lip

There: There are many possible causes for these white spots, but most likely these represent the openings of minor salivary glands found throughout the lips.

At one year of age, your granddaughter should have multiple teeth present. This is the prefect time for her first visit to a pediatric dentist for an evaluation. It is never too early to start the acclimation process for children so that they establish good oral health habits. The pediatric dentist can evaluate the white spots at that time. ...Read more

Exposed to scarlet fever, how long before symptoms will show? My 1 year old is in the stage of giving kisses. She has been kissing both her daddy and I on the mouth frequently and yesterday was diagnosed with scarlet fever. How long is the incubation p

Scarlet: Scarlet fever is caused by group a streptoccoccus - the same bacteria that causes strep throat. The symptoms usually start 1-2 days after infection and include sore throat, fever, sand papery red rash, abdominal pain, muscle aches, headache, vomiting, swollen red tongue and/or bright red color in the creases of the underarm or groin.

With proper antibiotic treatment, the symptoms typically improve quickly (2-3 days) though the rash can last for a few weeks.

Long term complications are extremely rare with treatment. The most concerning complication is acute rheumatic fever which occurs around 20 days after the start of infection if the patient is not treated with antibiotics. This can cause permanent heart valve damage. Other rare complications of untreated strep are bone or joint problems, kidney problems, inflammation of a gland, ear infection, meningitis, pneumonia, or sinusitis. ...Read more

What's the chances my 1 year old contract cold sore after touching band aid cotton side used to cover it then putting finger in mouth? Mainly scab

Very good. Herpes: Simplex 1 is highly contagious. It wouldn't take much fluid from a Cold Sore on the Band -Aid to infect her, because she touched the mucous membranes in her mouth with her contaminated finger. Children between 6 months & 5 years can have herpetic gingivo-stomatitis with the primary infection. That is inflammation & ulcerations of the mouth & gums. See photo. Symptoms may last up to 2 weeks. ...Read more

Hand, Foot and Mouth: Peeling is extremely common after HFMD. It's part of the natural course of the illness. Let the skin peel at it's own pace. My 1yr old daughter has habit of sleeping with milk bottle in her mouth. She needs bottle whole night, otherwise cries. How to remover her this habbit?

Baby bottle caries: If the baby continues to sleep with the milk bottle in her mouth like that, I will guarantee she will end upwith "baby bottle" caries, where the milk actually pools in her mouth and creates caries which will destroy her teeth. I suggest that you pick a couple of days, perhaps the weekend and try to break this habit by just not giving the bottle this way, perhaps substitute with a bottle of water. ...Read more

Active cold sores: If there is an active oral lesion such as a cold sore, then the virus is transmittable. The herpes virus doesn't survive very long on the countertop though.
