Doctor insights on:
1 Year Old Constipation Relief
Short or long term?: If this is just a one time thing for a few days, usually just some extra fluids and/or juice. You could do a one-time infant glycerin suppository as well (you know where that goes!). If it is a long term problem, then some diet changes with less milk products and more fiber needed. In addition, a product called MiraLAX (generic peg or polyethylene glycol) used on a routine basis is helpful. Read more
One year old was on a soy formula and has been off for a little over a month. Been struggling with constipation since. What kind of milk would be best?
2% milk or soy milk: Some toddlers do get constipated from the casein in milk, especially if they are also getting a lot of other dairy in their diet, such as cheese and yogurt. Soy milk is ok to give, as it also has calcium and a complete protein. He needs at least 2-3 calcium/dairy/soy servings a day for bone health. You may improve constipation with giving prunes, bran cereal. Almond milk is low in protein. Read more
What can I give my one year old for constipation. He is drinking whole milk. I don't know if that has anything to do with him being constipated.
I am 23 years old. I have mild hemoroid and anal fisher for one year. I have constipation and I use laxative. How I treat that? What drug prescript?
Avoid constipation: Hemorrhoids are exacerbated by constipation and the "pushing" necessary. Foods high in fat tend to constipate you. Foods high in fiber favor looser stools. Fruits vegetable, whole grains are excellent sources of fiber. Also, fiber only works if u are well hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids to keep stools soft. Most fissures will heal with a topical cream./ if not, surgery can help. See a doc. Read more
I am 22 years old, 195lb Male. A month ago I was experiencing mild constipation, which I took milk of magnesia and Metamucil to fix. Shortly after constipation relief, I experienced a pain in my anus/rectum which was similar to the feeling of a golf ball

My one year old has constant painful stools (constipation) what can I do? Someone told me to give him a little miralax (polyethylene glycol). Can that help or harm him?
Increase fluids: Most important to constipation is to make sure the child is getting plenty of fluids. At 12 months, can add a few ounces of water to daily milk intake, and if stools are harder than normal, a few ounces of juice can be added from a cup as well. Don't get into habit of juice from a bottle. Add extra fiber to diet. If persists, talk to doc about what meds may help, like miralax- can be very helpful! Read more
Needs calcium: Dairy is an easy source of the calcium needed for babies to build bone. They need the equivalent of 4 cups a day. If you are convinced cow mild constipates him there are alternatives. Soy & almond milks are formulated with calcium to meet that need. Goats milk supplemented with folate can also do it. You can also feed the kid antacid tablets (Tums wafers) that would do the job. One year old, constipated for a month, poops every few days but still super hard. Pushes and pushes and no poop. Juice, fletchers nothings working?
Needs soft stools: Constipation is a frustrating problem in children who have had a painful bm in the past. Try "p" fruits peaches, pears and prunes, increase fluids and continue your fiber. May need mineral oil one tablespoon twice a day to bring soft stools. Important also to go over birth and early stooling history with pediatrician to rule out anatomic causes of constipation. Diet: Make sure diet includes fiber rich fruits and vegetables. I also recommend pear juice for constipated kids, just until the constipation resolves and then just as needed afterwards. I'm not a fan of a lot of juice as an every day thing, as they generally have a lot of sugar and very little nutritional value-kids are better off eating the fruit. Read more

What is the best milk based formula for a 1 year old with constipation because of whole milk? We already tried 50/50, prunes, and dc said back to form
I just have to say,: The best milk for an infant is breastmilk. No ifs ands or buts. Beyond that the best milk for your baby is the one that works the best for your baby. Unfortunately you sometime have to just do trial and error and find what works the best for your infant. A one year old can eat any food that you eat (but honey), and perhaps adding some probiotic to their diet will help.. Read more
My 1 year old stays constipated; eats table food quite often. Could that be the problem? Should I take her to doctor?
My 1 year old is constipated, so I tried to insert a glycerin pediatric enema. She moved suddenly and it went into her vagina. She bled a little.?
It happens: Its happened before and is unlikely to cause any problem if you removed what you could of the suppository. The blood was likely triggered when you overstretched/tore the hymen. With a little warm water wash and time the area will heal. If she has related symptoms of pain with voiding or vaginal discharge have her evaluated. Read more
My one year old was put on a laxative a couple months back. & he didn't poop yesterday so today I gave him a laxative. When he pooped blood was in it.
Blood in stool: Constipation can be controlled by diet. There is more going on it he needs a laxative all the time. With missing a day in between BM's can lead to a large and harder stool that would cause a rectal tear, thus blood would be present on the wipe. If this continues, a trip to your pediatrician is my recommendation. Read more
Blackishgreen stool water no form, in 1 yr old boy with constipation for 3 months no relief but suppositories what should I do?
My 3 year olds pediatrician recommended a stimulant laxative to relieve constipation. Still pooping 3 days later?
PROBLEM with so called "stimulant" laxatives and in fact ALL laxatives.
MY OPINION ONLY THERE IS NO PLACE FOR LAXATIVE USE IN CHILDREN!
Increasing FLUID INTAKE, FRuITS such as PRUNES, PEARS, APRICOTS should be used!
NOTE I AM NOT a PEDIATRICIAN thus I BOW to his/her treatment...the continued pooping is "to be expected" Dr Z Read more
