1 Month Old Baby Constipated Breastfed
My breastfed infant is a month old and for the last few days she has been having 1-2 bowel movements a day. Is she constipated if so what to give her?
Probably OK: It is not unusual for babies to have change in stool pattern as they grow. . Also, it is normal for breastfed babies to have longer periods of time with no stools. Breast milk is the perfect baby food, thus there is less "waste" so to speak. If the baby's stomach is not distended, and he has a large soft stool infrequently this is not constipation requiring intervention. ...Read more

Are you sure?: Many parents think their breast fed baby is constipated because they no longer stool every day somewhere between 2 weeks and 1 month. This is because the body is now efficiently using that breast milk. As long as the stool your baby does have is soft, and your baby isn't in pain, your baby is not constipated and you should not worry. Breast fed babies can go days without stooling! Good luck! ...Read more

1 month old, formula feed infant has dark green poop that smells like skunk (sometimes stringy looking)...baby is gassy as well. Is this normal?
Could be: The first thing I would want to make sure is that your child is gaining weight appropriately and thriving. If that is the case, there are numerous things that could be of help, such as different formulas. That decision can be best made with your child's doctor who will know what formula your child is and/or has been on. Good luck. ...Read more
Constipation in baby: I would start by asking if the baby is actually constipated. Often babies (especially breast fed infants) don't stool as often. Many people think this means they are constipated. Some breast fed infants poop once a week! if the baby is gaining weight well and the stool is soft when it comes out then the baby is fine. If the stool is hard (like rabbit pellets) then you should talk to your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
