Typically, diagnosis made based upon several (more than one) itchy painful blisters. Best to go see your Family Doc, Planned Parenthood or local STD clinic if concerned. Doubt herpes, but...: This is not likely to be herpes, which generally does not cause sores in hairy areas, especially with the intitial HSV infection. And herpes rarely causes a "big raised bump" anywhere. I'm betting on pimples or folliculitis. But if you remain concerned, or if herpes seems possible because you are at risk for STD (e.g. new or unsafe partner), see a doctor or clinic. Better safe than sorry! ...Read more

Herpes lesions are very superficial, not a red bump in the skin, and you can't squeeze out pus, And although recurrent herpes outbreaks can show up as single lesions (if you've had it a long time), the first infection almost always causes multiple superficial painful blisters and sores.
