Im 36 weeks and 3 days pregnant have been having sharp shooting pains that last a few seconds and its mostly when he moves my dr said that im dialated 1 1/2 cm what does this mean?

You're getting ready: to deliver! You're in the home stretch, that's for sure. I presume your birthing classes have taught you that the cervix will dilate to 10 cm and thin (efface) considerably before delivery. The pain could simply be a pelvic structure that is being compressed when the baby moves. Review your birthing plan and get ready for the ride of a lifetime! Very good wishes! ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

36 weeks pregnant 2 1/2 cm dialated lower back pain?

Ok: This sounds like a very common scenario in a near-term pregnancy. The limited information you've provided is not necessarily a sign of impending delivery but could be depending on how quickly things are changing. Certainly though, your obstetrician is the only appropriate person to give you a proper assessment here. Don't be afraid to ask him or her! ...Read more

Is it safe to use lidocaine jelly during my 36 weeks pregnancy?

Is it safe to use lidocaine jelly during my 36 weeks pregnancy?

Only if needed: Lidocaine has been assigned to pregnancy category b by the fda. Animal studies have failed to reveal evidence of fetal harm. It is widely used for procedures during pregnancy but it does cross the placemta and enter the fetal bloodstream. Lidocaine should only be given during pregnancy when needed. Small amounts are probably ok. Ask your OB doc. ...Read more

I'm 36 weeks pregnant 3cm dialted 0% effaced what does the 0% effaced mean?

I'm 36 weeks pregnant 3cm dialted 0% effaced what does the 0% effaced mean?

Not thinning: You are due to deliver in about 4 weeks. This is probably not your first delivery if you cervix is open 3cm, but that's ok. Effacement is cervical thinning. Right now, your cervix is full and thick - maybe even an inch thick. That is going to get as this as a piece of paper and almost 6 inches around when you deliver! pretty amazing! (and then go back). You are right on schedule with cervix status. ...Read more

Time 2 see OB doctor: The cause might be preterm labor. The step that should be taken in simple. A woman not yet at term with pain is best seen on labor and delivery for examination of her and monitoring for contractions and the fetal status. Is there a safe way to break my water? im 36 weeks pregnant and in 2cm dialated with contractions

Is there a safe way to break my water? im 36 weeks pregnant and in 2cm dialated with contractions

Not now: You are still preterm and unless it is necessary for a medical reason you don't want to induce labor. Once your water is broken germs can get to the baby increasing the risk of infection for both you and the baby. What you are experiencing is very normal. The last month of pregnancy always seems like it is longer than the other 8 put together but it takes the time for the baby to mature. Patience ...Read more

Hard to tell: Without knowing more specific & physical examination its hard to tell. Cervix has two parts. During late pregnancy it frequently changes shape and size. Im 36 weeks and dilated to 3.75 CM and 30% effaced. How do i keep contractions coming?

Wait: 36 weeks is still early. It would be nice for the baby's development to wait for delivery if possible. Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids and eating a healthy diet.
