A 49-year-old member asked:

can you tell me exactly when is it safe to have unprotected sex on birth control?

1 week: A point of emphasis should be made. If you are not in a monogamous relationship, or even if you are, you should always use condoms to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Birth control prevents pregnancy, but will not protect you against stds. If you are taking birth control correctly, the recommendation is to use backup protection (condoms) for at least one week after the start of birth control.

Depends: Depends on the pill you are taking. You must take all the hormonally active pills in the pack. Ck with your hcp. Once you have completed your first cycle, you can have sex while you are on the hormone pills and while you are on the placebos (non-hormone pills...Which are usually a different color..But some hormone pills also are colored differently than the rest. So pls ck with your hcp !

A 44-year-old member asked:

How can I manage the negative emotions associated with giving birth to a preemie?

Talk about it...: These feelings can be normal. I recommend that you discuss your feelings openly with your partner, family & friends. Often talking about your feelings helps. If that isn't making you feel better talk to your md. Mom's of premature babies often feel guilty about the early birth - even when they did nothing wrong. If symptoms persist talk to your md and be screened for possible postpartum depression.
A 29-year-old member asked:

Will I have a premature birth after ivf?

Dr. Jeff Livingston
Obstetrics and Gynecology 22 years experience
No: There is a slight increase risk of preterm labor in pregnancies conceived by ivf. Part of this is because of the risk of multiple gestations like twins and triplets. Recent studies show that even single pregnancies conceived by ivf have a slight increase risk of preterm labor. It is important to be followed closely by your doctor or cnm.

Infection: Pneumonia and eye infections can occur in the baby. Pregnant women are usually screened for chlamydia during the pregnancy so that they can be treated before delivery of the baby.

I had sex one day ago and I started to bleed a few hours after and my bleeding is a bright red em I pregnant or is that normal

Probably not: Some bleeding after intercourse is not unusual. It doesn't represent pregnancy at all, but it also doesn't mean you aren't. If there is any question, take a home pregnancy test. As for the bleeding, it should resolve on it's own. You need to see your doctor if it persists or pain worsens.
