A member asked:

I'm 17 weeks pregnant, can the ob tell me the sex of my baby with a sonogram?

Before 18 weeks: The boy and girl genitalia may be similar in a regular ultrasound. After 18 weeks it becomes more clear. 3d ultrasound are more accurate but less available. Do not rely 100% on a us done that early. Wait after 21 weeks. Good luck in your pregnancy.

Maybe: Closer to 20 weeks the sonogram will often show the sex of the baby. You should be going in for your anatomy scan around that time anyway. Sometimes the sex is still not seen depending on the baby's position.
