Ophthalmology 33 years experience
Complicated disorder: Herpes simplex (not zoster) can infect the cornea (clear outer layer) of the eye and can lead to scarring. It can also lead to chronic and recurrent inflammation of the cornea, and inflammation inside the eye. The treatment can be a complicated combination of antiviral eye drops, ointment, and anti-inflammatories. Scarring might require surgery. Best treated by and ophthalmologist or cornea spec.
