HPV: That is not that unusual in a young sexually active female. You may have been exposed to another strain of the HPV virus.

A 21-year-old member asked:

I've heard about the HPV vaccine. Does it protect against cervical cancer?

Yes it does!: Two hpv vaccines, Gardasil and cervarix, are very effective at reducing cervical cancer risk from hpv 16 and 18. Gardasil also reduces risk of genital warts from hpv 6 and 11. Ideally the three doses hpv vaccine should be given prior to starting sexual activity but the vaccines are approved in females 10-25 (cervarix) or 9-26 (gardasil). Recently Gardasil was approved for males to prevent warts.

Will getting a HPV vaccine reduce my chances of getting vaginal cancer?

Dr. Marcus Degraw

Yes!!!: Yes, at least 50%, or more, of all vaginal cancers are caused by hpv. That is in addition to essentially all cervical cancer, 50% of vulvar cancer, 70% plus of anal cacers, 70% of head and neck cancers and most non-melanoma skin cancers. Plus most abnormal paps and all genital warts. The vaccine works in 99.5% or receipients and is 95+% efficacious against vaginal cancer.

How long does it take retin-a micro to clear acne scars?

See below: Retin-a mirco does not treat acne scarring. It can help prevent new acne scars by preventing serious breakout as part of an acne treatment regimen. Some patients (especially those with darker skin tones) can develop dark spots from acne lesions. These are not actually scars and Retin-A can help improve them over the course of many months.

I have demo eye glasses with clear glass. When I wear them, my eyes hurt. Is this normal?

Probably not: The demo glasses may have zero power centrally but may induce some distortion at the periphery. Truly optically flat lenses should have no problem with this.

Pain may also be due to pressure of the frames on the nose and temples.

I heard that milk helps with your throat pain. Is this true? What about throat clearing?

No and No: Milk helping throat pain... Unlikley. Throat clearing can actually cause symptoms to worsen. Clearing of the throat is very traumatic for the throat and vocal cords.
