Thoughts: Typically if you first get infected with herpes, small sores, scabs and itching occur first and then the virus lays dormant for years. That presentation sounds more like an infected follicle which you could use bacitracin for. See your doctor or someone with an infectious disease background and be examined. You can check a blood test to rule out exposure if really concerned.
