Good question: Since herpes may be transmitted silently, telling future partners is the right thing to do. Be familiar with the medical facts: http://www.Cdc.Gov/std/herpes/stdfact-herpes.Htm it may be helpful for a partner to be tested for hsv antibodies. If positive, he or she is already a carrier as well. If negative, you may consider daily Valtrex (valacyclovir) to reduce the risk of transmission. Condoms may help.

Honesty: Honesty is the best policy. Learn as much as you can about it and how to protect your sexual partners. It may be hard, but if you really care for someone you will do that. If it is a one night stand, remember that you can catch other things without protection.
