Yes: HPV is a family of DNA virus strains numbering in the hundreds. They are well known for infecting, self clearing after 2 years or so but with the potential to hibernate in the body forever. It may or may not re-emerge and shed (be contagious). You will develop antibodies to that strain that provide a marker for infection. Re- activation would not be a new infection of that strain.
