Depends: You would need to see your doctor for a culture to see the specific std as many are treated differently and treatment depends on which it is. Some are bacterial and respond to antibiotics. (eg. Gonorrhea or chlamydia). Others are viral and while we can treat symptoms things like herpes last forever.

Yes: You should be tested to determine the type of std and to rule out transmission of HIV or hepatitis as well. Your partner should also be tested and treated.
