Dermatologist: You could see a dermatologist, dentist, or oral surgeon. Could be a canker sore (apthous ulcer) or herpes. Topical lidocaine, or a mixtire of benadryl, (diphenhydramine) maalox, and Lidocaine helps. Stay away from citrus, or spicy foods.

Sore: There are a range of possible causes from minor to more severe. See someone who knows oral pathology and they will ask the right questions and do the right tests if needed. Oral surgeons are experts in oral pathology since they are medically trained as well as dentally. An md may also know.

Need evaluation: See an oral surgeon about this. They are trained and can treat your tongue.
