Yes: Yes you sure can. They are usually painful sores. If you see your doctor at the first sign of a cold sore he/she can prescribe a medicine to help. Usually Famvir (famciclovir) or Acyclovir are used.

Canker sore: What you are describing sounds more like an apthous ulcer, or canker sore. It has a red center with a whitish rim. It can be pretty painful and last a good week or two. There are otc products like kanka or zilactin that can reduce pain. Your dentist can prescribe apthasol or cauterize it with a laser. Herpes, or cold sores tend to appear on the outer part of your lips rather than in your mouth.

Make sure this goes away within a week. If it lasts longer and/or it is on the side of the tongue, it could be much more serious.

Yes but,: There are many different causes of sores on the tounge which includes possibly herpes. The most common include food allergies, tongue injuries, vitamin deficiencies, food allergies, autoimmune disease , or even syphillys or cancer. The course is typically 1-2 weeks for the more benign problems. If the sores last longer or are too painfull to deal with, see a doctor.

Cooking oil: While there are lots of remedies, the one that worked the best for me was cooking oil. It is edible and easily absorbed into the skin. I would apply a small dab on the nipples after nursing. Worked really well.

See a periodontist before beginning the orthodontic therapy. I can provide you with a local good periodontist via e-mail (dhschneid@gmail.Com).
