After one month: After one month of continuous use unless you started the Desogen (ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel) on days 1 through 3 of your menses. Under that condition it usually works the first month. To be safe, use a"backup" barrier method of contraception during the first month of any pill use.

Desogen (ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel) birth control--is it good?

Not my 1st choice: I do not like that pill, and it has 30mcg of estrogen and it is 21 days. There are many pills that have less estrogen which is better- less chance for estrogen related side effects. My number one pill i prescribe is loloestin, it only has 10 mcg estrogen which is safer and it has 24 active pills and then 2 estrogen pills so only 2 placebo pills , so you get lighter periods and less chance of a cys.
