When to start pills: Birth control pills can be started at any time during the cycle. IT is not required to wait until the next period to start the active pills. Depending on where a woman is in her cycle when she starts them, it may or may not decrease the bleeding of the next period if heavy periods is the reason to start the pills, but it is okay to try.
