Depends: You can get pregnant the 1st cycle off pills, but it takes 3 months for the depo-provera shot to get out of your system.

Depends: It depends on how fast your hormones recover from the dampening effect of the pills and the timing of your activities. I've known of some who got pregnant within 2 weeks of stopping her pills and others that took months. This is the reason we usually suggest other forms of contraception for 3 months after stopping before trying to conceive to ensure all of the bcp effects are out of your system.

Off BCP's: A good rule of thumb is to use a reversible form of contraception such as condoms for a few cycles to allow your uterine lining to get back to normal. It is not too early to get on a good prenatal vit for the folic acid.

1-12 months: 85% of couples will achieve pregnancy after 1 year of trying. This is the natural fertility cycles. Just like it takes some people longer to get pregnant naturally, some women will get pregnant sooner than others after going off of the pill or ring, or taking out the iud. It will take longer if depo-provera was your birth control as the medication may be in the system for several months.

Birth control pills and IUDs stop working as soon as you stop using them - but it still can take time for anyone to get pregnant, even if they were never on birth control. Depo Provera can have a more lasting contraceptive effect, as noted by Dr Herold.
