First find the cause: Erection problems can be caused by low testosterone, low functioning thyroid gland, diabetes, plaque build up from high cholesterol and psychological reasons. Before a medicine can be recommended, the specific cause needs to be found first. Best to see your family doctor or urologist to find the diagnosis. Only then can a medicine be recommended. Best of luck.

Bad things: This is called priapism and is an emergency. The biggest problem is that the blood in the penis can clot and otherwise restrict circulation to the organ. This can result in permanent damage and permanent erectile dysfunction. It can be caused by a variety of things and requires emergency treatment to prevent damage. http://my.clevelandclinic.org/disorders/priapism/hic_priapism.aspx.

Find the reason: Without knowing the cause for it, it is much harder to treat than if the cause was evident. More history might help better with this. Pills like viagra, cialis, levitra, (vardenafil) and like seem to provide fairly good results with achieving and maintaining erection, although, don't be lured by it w/out pursuing search for the underlying cause.
