Anal itching: Dietary factors and fecal soilage account for the majority of patients with anal itching, or pruritus. Coffee, cola, beer, tea, tomatoes, and citrus fruits are some possible dietary irritants. Other less common causes include anorectal diseases (hemorrhoids, fistulas, fissures), infections (including sexually-transmitted ones), or skin diseases, such as psoriasis.

Is jock itch contagious?

Dr. Robert Kwok

Yes, it's contagious: Jock itch is a fungal infection and can spread to other parts of the body or to other people. Treatment is usually with over-the-counter anti-fungal creams. Rashes that don't go away easily, or those that keep returning after treatment, should be evaluated by a doctor. People with diabetes get more fungal infections, and have a harder time getting rid of infections.

Exam and biopsy: Anal cancer is diagnosed primarilly by physical examination. Sometimes it requires anesthesia, but most of the time can be done in the office. Any suspicious areas need to be biopsied.

Anal bleaching: More than likely not. If you use bleaching agents around the anus you may cause damage to the nerve endings and develop incontinence or numbness in the area.
