Could oral sex cause an abscess?

Yes, but....: Oral sex can transmit genital herpes to the mouth resulting in a abscess like lesion in the soft tissue of the mouth. The chances of it causing a tooth's nerve related abscess are highly unlikely.

Can coldsores be caused by oral sex?

Dr. Dan Fisher
Internal Medicine 27 years experience
Yes.: Cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus. Two types: hsv-1 ( generally oral) and hsv-2 ( generally genital) however, if you put oral on genital you can end up with hsv-2 on your lips and hsv-1 on your genitals. Best to know your partner and be careful with hiv.
