Am I pregnant?: There is no answer to this question. I know you are anxious. But, cramping alone in this situation is not diagnostic of being pregnant.

Sperm life span: Sperm ejaculated into a woman's vagina can live in a woman's reproductive tract for up to five days or perhaps even longer. Fertilization is possible as long as the sperm remain alive. Sperm ejaculated outside the body may survive only minutes to a few hours.

A 21-year-old female asked:
Is it true that if you have sex five days before ovulation it could lead to pregnancy?

Probably not: Because if it is really 5 days before ovulation and u do not have sex after that the sperm should be dead as the sperm should only be able to last up 72 hrs ( 3 days).

A 46-year-old female asked:
Can you get pregnant having sex 6 days before ovulation?

Can happen any time: You can actually get pregnant during any time of your cycle, but the chance is highest during/around time of ovulation (which, unfortunate, is very difficult to tell exactly when). The chance becomes less and less as you get older--being at 46 is less than at age 26. So, if you don't want pregnancy, protection is advised. Check a hpt when in doubt. Consult doc. Good luck.

Yes: The egg is viable, on average, for 36 hours after ovulation. Viable sperm have been recovered up to 7 days after ejaculation. Pregnancy in this situation is entirely possible.
