A 31-year-old member asked:
how many years would it take for hpv to turn in to anal cancer?
1 doctor answer • 3 doctors weighed in
Pathology 29 years experience
Patient specific.: Hpv can cause cancers of the anus, cervix, vagina, lip, tongue, oral cavity. Each case is unique and depends upon the patient's immune system (well people better able to fight hpv infection than folks with weakened immune systems), the strain of hpv, nutritional status, etc... For well person with high risk hpv, it would take several years for hpv to cause anal cancer. Smokers at greater risk.
