No: Drusen in the macula can be a sign of age-related macular degeneration (amd), which is a common cause of significant vision loss for individuals older than 50. In younger patients, drusen can be inherited, and are not usually associated with significant vision loss. While there is no treatment for the drusen, a dilated eye exam can help monitor for worsening of the amd.

Not currently: Drusen is a clinical finding that can put you at risk of developing macular degeneration. The current treatment can include vitamin supplementation, currently there is no treatment for drusen but there are clinical trials in the works now looking at laser, injections, and systemic medications to treat dry macular degeneration. Hopefully they will pan out.

Depends: Patients at risk for macular degeneration are advised to increase the lutein ; xeaxanthine in their diet from foods such as broccoli, spinach ; kale, increase omega-3-fatty acids from fish oil or flax seed, increase the fruit and consider a once a day multivitamin. Patients with macular degeneration should do the same but be on a twice day areds vitamin depending in their doctor's recommendation.
