Most likely: Herpes type 1 or 2 please see your doc as u need to get started on a med like Valtrex (valacyclovir) to get rid of it and the doc can do a culture to confirm or see if it is something else.

Could be a cold sore: Cold sores cause blisters to form on the edge of the lip. They can return from time to time in the same place or nearby. If you haven't had these for years off and on, check with your dentist, and maybe an ear, nose, and throat doctor. Sometimes toothpaste can cause an allergic reaction, so if the blisters are wide spread, try to change toothpastes.

Possibly herpes: Possibly oral herpes (hsv) also known as a fever blister. Another possibility is a canker sore which is different from hsv. Hsv should be treated with an oral antiviral such as acyclovir, valtrex, (valacyclovir) or famvir. Hsv is contagious and there is no cure, it can keep recurring and you are always a carrier. Canker sores are not contagious.

Allergy or Infection: There are many etiologies for lip blisters. Herpes simplex labialis affects many individuals and is due to a recurrent virus infection. It may be induced by stress, sunlight, and an underlying illness. Other causes include an allergy to a cosmetic ingredient. Systemic medications can also be associated with lip blisters.

Difficult to say: It is difficult to say without seeing the lesions. I t could be a herpes lesion...In which case it will generally be self limited and go away in about a week...If it gets worse then you need to see a doc and get an evaluation..

May be a cold sore: It sounds like you may have a cold sore. These are caused by a virus in the herpes family. Less likely, you may have an allergic reaction to something that touched your lips. If there is pain or tingling, it would suggest a cold sore. Only itching would lean more towards an allergic reaction.
