Get help: Depression is not something you can handle alone and you need help! you may have a physical reason (some people benefit form omega three fatty acid supplementation). Chinese medicine can help balance the body as well. Counseling can help and some people need medication for awhile to help. You are not alone. Get help!

The idea is NOT: To deal with it but the treat it so that it goes away! make an appointment with a psychiatrist in your area.

Depression: Just like thinking of the causes of depression as bio psycho social (bio for hereditary or organic factors, psycho for psychological factors, social for events triggering episodes such as trauma or loss), we can think of dealing with depression as biopsychosocial (bio for medications, psycho for psychotherapy, social for social support system).

Encourage you to : Start by seeing your physician. Your doctor can not only assess for a mood disorder but can also check for underlying medical conditions that may be the cause of your depressive symptoms. Talking therapy (such as cognitive behavioral therapy or insight oriented psychotherapy) is extremely important for lasting change. Psychiatric medications may be indicated. Don't isolate. Spend time w people.

Reach out: Reach out to others, because trying to fight depression on your own is more suffering than you need to bear. You can certainly exercise and make sure you eat healthy meals, if your appetite and energy permit. But support from caring others is needed. Working with psychologist can be very helpful -- and psychiatrists can also prescribe helpful medications if needed. Don't wait!

See a professional: I recommend that you consult with a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist for an evaluation and to see the best treatment options for you. They can include counseling and medications but each treatment should be tailored to the individual person's needs.
