What does end stage liver disease mean?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Ruth Spector
34 years experience in Critical Care
Not functioning: After a certain amount of damage, the liver is no longer able to "do its job". Our liver makes necessary proteins and also helps with factors needed in coagulation homeostasis. Plus it helps to metabolize certain medications and other substances. Examples of causes of liver damage are: from drinking too much, from hepatitis or for reasons unknown. Simple blood tests and scans may be helpful.
