A 34-year-old member asked:

what are electric nerve impulses i can control called?

Dr. Mark Fisher
Neurology 34 years experience
Please clarify: You are not likely to get an answer to this question because its meaning isn't clear. There is no such thing as an electric nerve impulse. Neuronal transmission is an electrochemical process, and yes, there IS a difference. As for control, all voluntary thoughts and movements are under our control. That's the definition of voluntary.

A member asked:

Should I call poison control if my baby came in contact with poison oak/ivy?

Dr. Lisa Roberts
Pediatrics 23 years experience
No: Probably the best thing to do is to wash the area with lots of cool water. Then you can bathe your baby with soap and water to make sure there has been no spread of the resin. The sooner you remove the resin, the less likely there will be any subsequent rash. It is very rare for poison oak/ivy to cause a life-threatening reaction. More commonly rash may be noted a day after the exposure.

How must I teach my teen self-control?

Dr. Cornelia Franz
Specializes in Pediatrics
Example: The best tool we have for teaching is modeling the behavior. If you have modeled it then your teen will see that. If you have modeled poor self control then he/she will model that as well. Understanding the teens point of view and offering other ways to react to situations. You may find that a counselor who does cognitive behavior therapy or dilaectical behavior therapy will also be very valuable.

Duh!!!: You don't need to know because it will not help you care for yourself. Only if you are writing a research paper. For chronic pain begin a self-care with a wellness program of vits, magnesium glycinate, sleep hygiene, exercise, self massage, chiropractor, yoga, heat, epsom tub soaking, stretching all are needed. In my practice I use acupuncture and myofascial tissue release.
