Most likely you are.: Certainly if you are having trouble functioning, sleeping, eating or just can't seem to get things started and are preoccupied constantly with the idea of dying and it has been going on for several months it's safe to say you have depression. You need to talk about it with those you trust which may not include your parents. Get professional help before your not wanting to live becomes suicidal.

This is very good advice. While "pop" wisdom blames depression / suicide on "drugs" or "peer pressure" or whatever, the real cause is almost always emotional abuse from parents. Call your physician NOW and set up a time to talk, and be ready to find substitutes for your parents in the community.

Depression treatment: First of all, you should somehow get evaluated and formally diagnosed with depression (or major depressive disorder, as it is called) prior to considering any help. The best known treatment strategies for depression are medications and psychotherapy, or combination of both (which also works the best).

Not enough info: While this could be due to depression it could be due to anxiety, particularly a form called agoraphobia. There are clear criteria for depression;there are good online quizzes at http://psychcentral.Com/depquiz.Htm & http://counsellingresource.Com/lib/quizzes/depression-testing/ that can help you see if you are.Whether depressed or anxious i urge you to see a psychiatrist/family doc &/or counselor.

Confidentiality: Talking to one's doctor is always confidential. But if there is depression that is discussed i always encourage communication between child and parent and will do everything possible to facilitate the conversation.
