The doctor's job: Selecting tests & treatments is what your doctor went to school for many years to learn how to do. It is quite proper for doctors to offer you choices when they exist, telling you the benefits & risks and other information so you can make informed choices, but it is not appropriate for you to initiate the procedure choice other than to ask about ones you've heard about. Ask for referral if needed.

Can test androgens: But Estrogens don't/can't be converted into androgens (it's the other way around, the androgens get converted into estrogens). But your doctor can test your androgen levels. Unfortunately, hair loss is a difficult problem to diagnose the cause of and to correct. Usually thyroid and iron levels as well as biotin levels can be checked.
