can ibs and stress cause knotted stomach pain about 1 inch above belly button. this pain seems to come on during high stress times and lasts for days.

That can happen.: I would encourage you to look into destressing techniques like deep breathing exercises & progressive muscle relaxation. Tai chi, acupuncture, meditation & yoga are also beneficial. If you efforts are not doing the trick, consider seeing a psychologist to work more on ways to handle stress. Take care.
