Non functioning GB: Every day over 1500 cc of bile enters GI tract to help digestion with or with out gb , even if gall bladder is not functioning (working ) bile enters the gut. In a non functioning state due to stones , or due to infection will give pains , fever , jaundice etc , then requiring its removal.

Gallstones : If you are referring to biliary dyskinesia, this will not damage anything. If the gallbladder is "not working properly", it may contribute to the formation of gallstones, which in turn could damage the gallbladder itself, the bile duct, and possibly the liver if the stone blocks its outflow bad causes infection. Hope this helps.
