A 45-year-old female asked:

Would anything be abnormal in a CBC if you have a blot clot?

1 doctor answer2 doctors weighed in
Dr. Steven Hebert
Pathology 29 years experience
Blood clot: Your CBC could be normal or you may have lower platelets due to accumulation of platelets within the clot. CBC is not specific for clot. An ultrasound is usually used to find a clot.
A 36-year-old member asked:

Grandfather has abnormal CBC results, what to do?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Ed Friedlander
Pathology 44 years experience
Autonomy rules: Unless granddad is mentally disabled, he's discussed his results with his physician and has been advised what to do. There are hundreds of different possible abnormalities of the cbc, and if you're actually the caregiver, you'll be instructed what to do. Otherwise, it's his business. You must care very much about him to have asked and i hope his health recovers.

See your doctor.: CBC results are used to help aiding in many different diagnosis, ranging from anemias, infections (viral, parasite, bacteria), platelet disorders, blood loss, etc... The patient should see a doctor to analyze what the abnormal results are and what further treatment is needed.

A 66-year-old male asked:

Is RDW of 15.9 abnormal in CBC?

Dr. Ed Friedlander
Pathology 44 years experience
A little bit: You look at the person, not the lab value. When I was donating blood a lot, my RDW was in the 16's and it was fine. It's not dangerous; if everything else seems fine, you may never find the cause.
