Varaible: Just as with all labs, there are normal ranges for testosterone but it may vary from lab to lab. It generally ranges from 261 to about 900. The younger the patient the higher the value. One may also check a "free testosterone" level which is a variation on the total testosterone.

Varies by lab: Hypogonadism shows a low free testosterone level. Lab levels vary, as do clinical parameters like protein binding, so interpretation depends on the lab used and the type of assay performed. Hypogonadism can be primary, testicular failure, or it can be secondary, from low pituitary hormones, so fsh and lh from very hight to very low. Hypogonadism requires expertise to diagnose.
