Use OTC drops: It's not a good idea to make up your own eye drops as a substitute for commercially prepared drops. In the past, soft contact lens wearers used to prepare their own saline solutions with salt tablets. They had a higher risk of developing bad eye infections because of having no preservatives in the drops to prevent contamination. You can rinse your eye out with tap water if needed.

Use commercial prep: I would not recommend using a home remedy for eye drops. You may risk infection. There are many lubricating eye drops available over the counter.
