Type of skin cancer: A basal cell carcinoma is a common type of skin cancer. Usually, it is found on the head or neck region and tends to be associated with a history of sun exposure. This type of cancer rarely spreads, but it can be locally aggressive. Primary treatment is surgical excision, although some medical treatments do exist. This is commonly treated by dermatologist, surgeons, and plastic surgeons.

Basal cell carcinoma: This is the most common skin cancer and tends to occur in sun exposed areas of the body. If left untreated it tends to grow and invade neighboring structures. It is usually best to treat this at an early stage. Occasionally topical chemotherapy agents can treat these at an early stage. Surgery tends to offer the highest cure rates.

This is skin cancer: Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that needs to be removed. Bcc is the most common form of skin cancer and, thankfully, not very aggressive. Bccs typically do not spread, but should be treated early to minimize the amount of skin that is involved. See a dermatologist or plastic surgeon to have these treated. This is very different from melanoma which is much more aggressive.

Survival, but.....: Used to be, the short answer was simply survival risk with stage 1 having the best prognosis and stage IV the worst. While stages 1/2 still have the highest survival rates but improved surgical techniques and chemotherapy and i'd add lifestyle changes, have leveled the playing field greatly. Colon cancer, even advanced is often quite treatable.

Yes: The old pennsylvania dutch adage is true: "we grow too soon old and too late smart." we are generally more impulsive when we're young, and males are generally more impulsive than females. Women are more cautious and more apt to stop something before it becomes habitual (other than shoes, of course).

It's only for some: Provenge (sipuleucel-t) is used in a very specific clinical situation with prostate cancer--definitely not indicated for everyone. The best treatment depends on the stage and grade of the cancer.
Dr. William A Biermann
Medical Oncology 46 years experience
It is a complicated and very expensive treatment that has a small benefit for a very small group of patients. Most oncologist nationally use it very infrequently
