A 40-year-old female asked:

does low dose cortef (hydrocortisone) heal the adrenals, helping the patient to feel well again and enabling them to eventually go off the drug? non-addison's.

No: Taking any dose of steroid causes the adrenal glands to work less, as the pituitary gland regulates your adrenal hormone level. If your adrenal glands truly do not work, you need lifelong adrenal hormone replacement. However, i see people who have been diagnosed with "adrenal fatigue". This is not a true medical diagnosis. Most of these people have no adrenal problem at all.

I have this red bump near my anal it gets itchy and I've been trying cortizone (hydrocortisone) on. But should I check it out?

Yes: Any undiagnosed skin lesion and especially one near the anus should be examined. There are many benign things that it could be, but there are many bad things it could be too. It would depend on your age, any anal or bowel issues, sexual practices, trauma, and many other issues. Don't let it be a pain in the b==t, just get it checked out! see pcp, colorectal surgeon, derm or generall surgeon.

I will try: Most likely you have some traumatic arthritis from the fracture of the knee cap. Try to see sport medicine (orthopedic surgeon) for second opinion. Good luck thanks.

Strength: Steroids are classified from 1-6 .Hydrocrtisone is weak. The value rate version is much stronger and should not be sued in sensitive areas such as face, armpits or groin. It will thin the skin and potentially cause stretch marks with extended use.
