Avoid iodine: The only recommended dietary restriction is avoid excess iodine, such as in kelp, seaweed, sushi. Depending on the cause for the hyperthyroidism, he may need additional treatment than methimazole. No smoking is important. He should avoid overexertion until thyroid levels are normal.
