Depends: For a 1st time UTI in young girl, Amoxicillin may work. In older women bactrim/septra may be first drug used. In those with recurrent uti's a urine culture & sensitivity may be needed to determine which antibiotic will work best. In all cases, drinking plenty of fluids (water, cranberry juice) helps. If there is significant pain, sometimes a urinary tract analgesic (pyridium) is given.

Antibiotics: You should be treated with an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection. The choice of antibiotic can vary and you should see your doctor first.

UTI fast tx: There is no "fast treatment". If the antibiotics are given intravenously or intramuscularly they act faster that the oral ones. Antibiotics ( depending upon the sensitivity in the culture) for minimum of three to seven days for a non complicated urinary tract infection in a lady. Males may require antibiotics for several weeks ( two or three) to a month.

Antibiotics from Dr.: There is no good home treatment other than taking antibiotics. Drink plenty of water and urinate fairly frequently so bacteria are eliminated at close to or at a faster rate than they reproduce.
