Find out why.: If you r drowsy hours after u have slept, there is a definite problem. Many possibilities: adverse drug effect, abnormal sleep state, sleep disordered breathing, thryoid, heart or nervous system disorder...Probably the most common cause is depression. See a good primary care physician (if he says you r depressed without work-up, find another). Eat four times per day, drink more than 60 oz water.

Try Excersize: A good work-out (appropriate for your body) at some point during the day may help you feel the need to rest at night. Give it a try!

I would just add that you should do the exercise during the day rather than before bed; exercise raises your body's core temperature and it can take 2-3 hours for it to go back down to normal (ie delaying sleep onset)

Change what you eat: Some foods make you more sleepy than others. Foods with sugar or white flour (as opposed to whole grains) are often the problem. Foods such as turkey which contain tryptophan are well known to cause sleepiness too. Other foods with lean protein and low carbohydrate are more likely to keep you alert. Start keeping a log of what you eat and how sleepy you are afterwards.

Problem: You can have sleep problems from snoring, apnea, restless legs, poor sleep hygeine, anxiety/depression, napping during the day, night seizures, noises in the neighborhood waking you up, bed bugs, waking up to use the bathroom, acid reflux, allergies, or any number of things. I recommend seeing a doctor to get checked out.

Quite possibly but..: If you are sleepy, the first thing should be to see a doctor to determine the cause. There are many possible causes like sleep apnea, allergies, low thyroid or adrenal function, poor diet, anemia & chronic infections. Many herbs (like ashwagandha, rhodiola, cordyceps) may help, but may not be the answer. An individualized homeopathic remedy may help. My first advice is to find and treat the cause!
