Contact with animal: It is spread from dog or cat to human not from human to human. You had close contact with pet as opposed to others. Treat animal to eradicate source of fleas.

Depends: I agree with dr westfried. Also, everyone responds differently to bites. It is possible that other family members were exposed but their reaction is not as severe as yours and they may not have any symptoms.
